Below is a list of scholarships that have been announced to Anderson High School. Each is listed by due date of application. This is by no means an all inclusive list. Please continue to use the scholarship clearinghouses (www.fastweb.com for example) and the other sites and documents listed on the "Scholarship Info" tab on this site!

November 15, 2019 - Elks National Foundation "Most Valuable Student" scholarship for 500 total scholarships.  Awards based on academic excellence, community service, and leadership skills, and financial need. Applications must be downloaded by visiting www.enf.elks.org/mvs

December 6, 2019 - Leaders and Achievers $2,500 scholarship for students with a 3.0 or higher.  Demonstrated Leadership ability and Community Service through Comcast NBCUniversal.  Plans to enroll in a 2-yr or 4-yr college or university.  Demonstrate financial need.  Apply:  comcastleadersandachieversscholarship.com

December 7, 2019 - Specs Howard School of Media Arts - HS Scholarship Test in Graphic Design, Digital Media Arts, or Broadcast Media Arts Compete for 3 full scholarships & 6 partial scholarships in the program of your choice.  Registration is at 9:30am. December 9, 2019 Science Ambassador Scholarship $40,000 Full tuition scholarship for a senior woman in the field of science, technology, engineering, or math.  For application steps go to:https://www.scienceambassadorscholarship.org

December 14, 2019 or first 10,000 applicants - AXA Achievement Scholarship.  52 scholarships of $10,000 given out nationwide to seniors who are active in the community, led a project that benefitted others, and/or overcame personal hardship.  Visit https://us.axa.com/axa-foundation/AXA-achievement-scholarship.html

December 15, 2019 or first 50,000 applicants-  Burger King Scholar Award.  Grants range from $1,000 to $50,000. December 31, 2019 G2 Pilot Overachievers Grant - $100,000 for a middle or high schooler making a difference in others' lives outside the classroom. Nominators must hand write a 1,000 to 2,500 essay explaining how they or someone they know is overachieving by going beyond their everyday job and responsibility by giving back to their community and improving the lives of others.

December 31, 2019 - Easton/NFAA Scholarship Program.  High school applicants must be applying to be full time students at a two or four year college/university or a technical training college.  Applications can be found at www.studentscholarships.org/scholarship/12654/easton_nfaa_scholarship_program_scholarship.php

250 word maximum introductory bio about yourself – you may choose to include your work or educational background, why you're seeking a degree in your field, and why this scholarship interested you.

500-750 word essay response to the question: How can your major of study improve the lives of seniors in assisted living facilities in your town?

January 4, 2020 - GE-REAGAN Foundation Scholarship Program - Scholarship program for high school seniors who demonstrate leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship.  Apply online at reaganfoundation.org/scholarships or facebook.com/GEReaganScholarships 

January 9th 2020 - The Ron Brown Scholarship:  the student must be African American that excels academically.  A 3.5 GPA or higher is recommended.  Applications can be found by visiting: https://studentscholarships.org/9535/ron_brown_scholarships_program_scholarship.php

January 13, 2020 - American Legion William & Jewell Brewer Scholarship And/Or Guy Wilson Scholarship   Both available for $500 each.   Apply:  www.michiganlegion.org/scholarships         You must be a Michigan Resident and a son, daughter, grandchild or great-grandchild of a war time veteran planning on attending any nationally accredited college or university.  GPA 2.5 or above, financial need, parent's or grand parent's honorable active war-time military services, goals and intentions. 

January 15, 2020 (and beyond) - The Western Michigan University College of Education and Human Development offers two scholarship opportunities directly related to increasing the number of teachers from underrepresented populations.   We offer five full tuition scholarships for eight semesters with our Funding the Advancement of Minorities in Education (FAME) and for 2018-19 will offer three $5,000 for five years scholarships for the WMU Future Educator Program from the Pickard Family Fund.  Interested applicants can complete the CEHD scholarship application for consideration for these and other CEHD scholarships. The deadline to apply is January 15, 2018.

January 17, 2020 - University of Michigan Club of Greater Detroit. Once again the University of Michigan Club of Greater Detroit is sponsoring unique scholarship awards to twelve outstanding freshman applicants to the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. By completing the Scholarship Application, students will be considered for all 12 Scholarship awards.  To apply you must meet one of the following:  ACT 31 or higher OR  SAT  1430 or higher  OR  Top 1% of graduating class.  If you meet one of those please visit www.umclubgreaterdetroit.org to apply with our new online application.  Select the Scholarship link on the home page.

January 17, 2020 - JFK Profiles in Courage Essay Contest.   1st place $10,000; 2nd place $3,000; five finalists $1,000; eight semifinalists $100    Apply:  JFKLibrary.org/essaycontest         Write an original and creative essay that demonstrates an understanding of political courage as described by JFK in Profiles in Courage.  Subject must be a US elected official who served during or after 1917, the year of JFK's birth.  You are encouraged to choose an original subject and tell a story that has not yet been told.

January 31, 2020 to the athletic director Mr. Pinkowski - The Ryan Fischer Legacy Scholarship.  $3,500  Nominations will be made by varsity hockey head coaches.  Gpa = min 3.5, Lettered in at least two varsity sports one of them Hockey, Excellent character demonstrated, and accepted to a college/university.  For more information on application, criteria, rules, and guidelines please go to www.RyanFisher.org 

January 31, 2020 - The Princeton Prize in Race Relations.  $1000 award for persons who are helping improve race relations in their school or community.  Please apply online at www.princeton.edu/pprize

January 31, 2020 - 2018 MCWT Scholarship.  Scholarship applications are now being accepted for high school seniors or current college/university students with a focus on a technology academic program. Must be female, a Michigan resident and attending a Michigan college or university for the 2018-19 academic school year. Application and details are located at www.mcwt.org 

 

February 1 2020 - NFL Alumni - Detroit Chapter Student Athlete Scholarship:  Applicants are high school student athletes who have not accepted any scholarship funds or grants to participate in college athletics and attend high school within Wayne County.  Must be a resident of Wayne County with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher OR a score of 1090 on the SAT OR a score of 19 or higher on the ACT.  Must also show proof of acceptance to a 2 or 4 year college; have a letter of recommendation from your coach and played on the varsity level for a minimum of 1 year.  Applications can be found by visiting:  www.nflalumnidet.org

February 15, 2020 - Registration deadline for CSFEM Scholarship.  Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan has a collection of scholarships which are available to all graduating seniors.  Application Deadline is March 15, 2020. February 15, 2020 deadline to register for the scholarship portal for Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan where students can now go and apply to any scholarship for which they are eligible.  Apply:  CFSEM.org/Scholarships    Deadline for application is March 15, 2020.

February 20, 2020 - MEA Scholarship award.  Selection criteria includes academic achievement, extra curricular activities, school and community service, and students from lower income households (given priority).  Access the full details and description at www.mea.org/mea-scholarship. Apply online

February 24, 2020 - Zeal Credit Union - Each year, Zeal Credit Union awards seven scholarships to high school seniors. A total of $14,000 is awarded. High school seniors, who are members of Zeal Credit Union, may apply for scholarships for college or technical school.

     The following scholarships are available:

       • Harlan Richardson Scholarship - $4,000 

       • Dutch Farr Scholarship - $3,000

All high school seniors are encouraged to apply. All applications and supporting documentation must be submitted electronically at  ZealCU.org/Scholarships no later than 6:00p.m. on February 24th. 

March 1, 2020 - The Detroit Section of the Society of Women Engineers annually recognizes high school women who have shown exemplary abilities in areas such as leadership, academics, and community activities. Please find the application for our college scholarships attached. SWE, at a national level, also has many scholarships for outstanding high school female students.  Apply:  https://swe.org/scholarships/swe-detroit-section-scholarship/ This application form can be found on the National SWE website: http://www.swe.org

March 13, 2020 True Orthodontics - 2 Downriver graduates will receive $1000 scholarship.  AHS will nominate a student to be chosen for competing at the Downriver level.  Please submit a 500 or less typed essay explaining why you deserve this scholarship and your future plans.  Essays should be turned in to Mrs. Stewart in counseling.  The representative for AHS will be selected from those who submit an essay.  Application information can be found at www.TrueOrthodontics.com

March 16, 2020 - The American Foreign Service Association.  High school students grade 9-12 are encouraged to apply.  Entrants are asked to take a critical look at how agencies cooperate under the rigors of international diplomacy.  For further details please visit www.afsa.org/afsa-scholarships 

March 27, 2020 - Schoolcraft College Trustee Scholarship ($2,000) and Award of Excellence ($5,000) - Requirements include:  2020 High school graduate and admitted to Schoolcraft College for Fall 2020. There is a minimum gpa of 3.0 for the Trustee and SAT = 940 or above or ACT = 18 or above.  For the Award of Excellence - minimum gpa of 3.5 with an SAT = 1130 or above or ACT = 23 composite or above. March 29, 2020 - Creative Arts Society - 2 $500 scholarships available.  The scholarship is open to any qualifying student pursuing a career in the visual arts. This includes Art Education, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Ceramics, Architecture, Artistic Welding, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Video, and other Visual Arts

March 29, 2020 - SET SEG - Trades Scholarship - $500 :  https://setseg.org/tradescholarship  Must be a Michigan resident and a high school senior attending a Michigan Public School.  You must have been enrolled in a Career Technical Education Program (and provide transcript).  You must also be enrolled or plan to enroll in an accredited two-year college, technical school or other accredited technical institute in the next 12 months.  If you have any questions regarding the application process or the scholarship, please contact Lisa Truscott at (517) 816-1616 or via email at ltruscott@setseg.org

**March 31, 2020 - Corky Hancock Memorial Scholarship.  An annual scholarship given to DCTC students who wish to further their education in CTE programs such as skilled trades, welding, drafting, CAD, and construction.  Scholarship can be used at a post secondary institution, apprenticeship program, or trade/technical school.  See Mrs. Stewart for application.  

March 31, 2020 - Advantage One Credit Union - James Wood Memorial Scholarship and the Ronald Stamper Memorial Scholarship.  College bound students graduating from AHS are eligible to apply. Must be a AOCU member for at least 4 months.  Visit www.myaocu.com/scholarships for application.  

April 1, 2020 -  William G. Coyne Memorial Scholarship Program 

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Complete 30 or more hours of documented, qualified community service during Junior/Senior year of high school ending April 1, 2020**

  • Be a 2020 graduating high school senior
  • Be a Member of a family that has belonged to Credit Union ONE of Michigan for a minimum of 6 months (in good standing)***
  • Have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or above
  • Plan to enroll in, beginning in the fall of 2020, a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university, or accredited trade or vocational school

April 1, 2020 - The DXB Scholarship.  Eligibility is open to all African American males age 17-22 who reside in Wayne, Oakland or Washtenaw county. April 1, 2020 - Michigan Retailers Association.  To be eligible a student or his/her parent must be employed at a business that is a member of MRA.  Apply online at bit.ly/mrascholarships 

April 8, 2020 - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Vision Fair Foundation Annual Scholarships.  2 types available - One is the Undergraduate Scholarship - $1000 applicants must be a June 2020 graduate from a Wayne County school, have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher, and include a list of extracurricular/community service and a personal essay. 

The second scholarship is Starlett Burrell Book Award Scholarship for  $500 for students pursuing trades school, community college or university

April 11, 2019 - Young Educators Society (YES) Scholarship.  Available to graduating seniors with at 2.75 or higher GPA who are pursuing a teaching degree at EMU, MSU, UM, SVSU, WSU, or GVSU.    

April 22, 2019 - Student Insights 2018 Student-View Scholarship Program.  No minimum GPA or test score required to be eligible for one of 13 scholarships ranging between $500 and $4000.  Log on to www.student-view.com and complete a 15-20 minute survey about colleges in your area.  Winners will be randomly selected from all completed applications.  

**Postponed - Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #2148 Scholarship.  Student athlete qualifications are a GPA of 2.5 or higher and at least 2 years on the Varsity level of their respective sport.  See your coach for nomination.    

April 30, 2019 - Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital Medical Staff Fund Scholarship.  If you plan to attend college in the fall to pursue a medical career. 

 

**May 1, 2020 - Southgate Education Foundation Scholarship - Must be a June 2020 grad from AHS who has attended Southgate for at least 5 years, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and has had an impact on the Southgate Community School District.  Letter of Recommendation and essay needed.  See Mrs. Stewart for application.

**May 1, 2020 - Thomas J and Margaret Anderson Scholarship.  Must be a graduating senior who has attended Southgate schools for a minimum of 5 years, with a B or better GPA, and is majoring in a Science related field.  See Mrs. Stewart for application.

**May 1, 2020 - Big Brothers/Big Sisters 2020 Scholarship.  Applicants must be a June 2020 graduate, good standing member of Big Brothers/Sisters, and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.  Extracurricular activities, volunteer involvement in the community, paid work experience, school attendance, and financial need will be considered.  See Mrs. Stewart for application.  

**May 1, 2020 - The Rotary Club of Southgate Service Above Self Scholarship.  Eligible students must be graduating from AHS and be accepted into a 2 or 4 year college or university.  A one page essay about how you have contributed service to the community outside of your school is required.    

**May 1, 2020 - The Al Anderson Memorial Scholarship.  Graduating AHS seniors who have attended Southgate schools for a minimum of 2 years can apply.  Students must submit a letter stating why they should be considered and how they demonstrated initiative, determination, and hard work through their high school years in addition to a letter of recommendation.  See Mrs. Stewart for application.  

**May 1, 2020 - The Thomas and Margaret Flynn Memorial Scholarship.  Graduating AHS seniors who have attended Southgate schools for a minimum of 2 years can apply.  Students must submit a letter stating why they should be considered and how they demonstrated initiative, determination, and hard work through their high school years in addition to a letter of recommendation.  See Mrs. Stewart for application.  

**May 1, 2020 - The Paul C. Pomponio Public Service Scholarship.  Students with a 2.0 or higher GPA who are pursuing a career in the field of criminal justice, fire science, or EMT are eligible to apply.  See Mrs. Stewart for application.   

**May 1, 2020 - Southgate Anderson Student Council 2020 Scholarship.  Applicants should have a 3.0 or higher GPA, have extracurricular or community service experience, good attendance record, and demonstrate financial need.  See Mrs. Stewart for application. 

**May 1 2020 - Allen Elementary Alumni Scholarship 2020.  Applicants must have attended Allen Elementary and be graduating from Southgate Anderson.  

**May 1 2020 - Fordline Elementary Alumni Scholarship 2020.  Applicants must have attended Allen Elementary and be graduating from Southgate Anderson. 

**May 1, 2020 - Southgate Historical Foundation 2020 Scholarship.  Must be a graduating senior that resides in Southgate who will be entering their first year of college/trade school in 2020.    

May 3, 2019 - TL Financial Group Scholarship.  Must be a graduating senior that resides in Southgate who will be entering their first year of college/trade school in 2018.  

**May 1, 2020 - The Hector S. Puente Mexican Gardens Memorial Scholarship.  Must be a graduating senior that resides in Southgate who will be entering their first year of college/trade school in 2020.  

** May 1, 2020 - Paul Chapo Memorial Scholarship - Applicants need to be graduating senior from Southgate Anderson with a minimum gpa=3.0 and an athlete in at least one sport. Submit letter of rec and an essay on how you have overcome adversity to Mr. Neil  neild@sgate.k12.mi AND Ms. Chapo Kucharsky - rkucharsky@gmail.com

**May 4, 2020 - SAHS Principals and Supervisors Association 2020 Scholarship.  Applicants must be a June graduating senior with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.  Extracurricular activities, volunteer involvement in the community, paid work experience, school attendance, and financial need will be considered.  See Mrs. Stewart for application.  

*May 8, 2020 - Joe Farrah FOP Police Scholarship.  Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 or higher, demonstrate extracurricular or community service experience, good attendance record, and demonstrate financial need. 

 

 

**June 11, 2020 - The Matthew Edwards Memorial Scholarship.  This scholarship is available to all HS seniors in the Downriver area.  Applicants must either be accepted by a recognized Christian College and/or be majoring in criminal justice.  See Mrs. Stewart  for application.  

June 15, 2019 - Horatio Alger National Career and Technical Scholarship program.  Criteria include high school completion by spring of 2018, commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical certificate/degree, Pell grant eligibility, student under age 30, and US citizen.  See application.horatioalger.org for application and more information.

August 31, 2019 - NursingSchoolsAlmanac.com has just launched its fourth annual Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. Our website will award a $1,000 scholarship to a future nurse in the high school graduating class of 2018. We will award this scholarship to the applicant who best demonstrates:

+ A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics

+ A passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of healthcare

This scholarship competition is open to all high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs. Scholarship applications will be accepted until midnight on August 31, 2018. Interested students may visit https://www.nursingschoolsalmanac.com and click the banner on the right-hand side of the website's homepage. Here they'll find detailed scholarship information and the official application form.

 

**Seniors make sure your SAT score is activated by contacting SSG (888-4-GRANTS or ssh@michigan.gov) and providing your Social Security number. This is required for your qualifying SAT score to match with FAFSA results; which is the application for the Michigan Competitive Scholarship award.  The award will be matched to your first college choice listed on the FAFSA form.   This must be done before entering college!
